This training will mainly cover the following elements:
- Introduction: scenario setup and definition of WHMIS.
- Lesson 1: simplified legal framework — worker roles, excluded products, general disclaimer.
- Lesson 2: the 9 hazard pictograms — reading the danger at a glance.
- Lesson 3: hazard classes, routes of entry, and health effects.
- Lesson 4: the supplier label — 6 mandatory elements.
- Lesson 5: the workplace label — when and why.
- Lesson 6: the SDS — the 16 sections and the 5 essentials for the worker.
- Lesson 7: handling, decanting, storage and transport.
- Lesson 8: emergencies — spill, fire, exposure.
- Lesson 9: PPE and daily reflexes.
- Conclusion: Recap and final quiz.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain what WHMIS is and why it applies to his workplace.
- Recognize the 9 WHMIS hazard pictograms and understand what they mean for him.
- Distinguish the two main categories of hazards (physical and health) and understand the routes of entry of contaminants into the body.
- Read and interpret a supplier label (6 mandatory elements).
- Understand what a workplace label is for and when it is required.
- Navigate through a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and identify the 5 essential sections for the worker.
- Apply good handling, transfer, and safe storage practices.
- React correctly in case of a spill, fire, or exposure to a hazardous product.
- Select and use the right personal protective equipment (PPE) based on the product.
- Knowing where to find SDS in your environment and what to do if a label is missing or illegible.
