Emergency Measures: Knowing Your Role When Every Second Counts

This training will primarily cover the following topics:

• Introduction: scenario-based learning and the importance of being prepared before an emergency occurs.
• Lesson 1: understanding emergency procedures and your role: the three basic behaviours.
• Lesson 2: recognizing the alarm signal and evacuating properly.
• Lesson 3: responding to the start of a fire and using a fire extinguisher.
• Lesson 4: medical emergencies: the role of first aid responders and basic reflexes.
• Lesson 5: power outages, leaks and natural phenomena.
• Lesson 6: suspicious objects, threats and hazardous situations.
• Conclusion: recap, cautions and final quiz.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

• Describe the three basic behaviours in an emergency situation: evacuating, sheltering in place and lockdown, and know which one applies to each situation.
• Recognize an alarm signal and follow the evacuation procedure in their workplace to the assembly point.
• Quickly locate the exits, assembly point, fire extinguishers and designated first aid responders in their workplace.
• Respond appropriately to the start of a fire, including recognizing the limits of their own intervention.
• Recognize the main medical emergencies and adopt the appropriate responses while waiting for help to arrive.
• Adopt the appropriate responses during a power outage, leak or natural phenomenon.
• Recognize a suspicious object, threat or hazardous situation and know how to respond while prioritizing their safety.
• Understand the importance of participating in drills and consulting their organization's emergency procedures plan.
